The XPG Spectrix S40G RGB is a solid-state drive in the M.2 2280 form factor, launched on May 24th, 2019. It is available in capacities ranging from 256 GB to 4 TB. This page reports specifications for the 512 GB variant. With the rest of the system, the XPG Spectrix S40G RGB interfaces using a PCI-Express 3.0 x4 connection. The SSD controller is the RTS5762 from Realtek, a DRAM cache chip is available. XPG has installed 64-layer TLC NAND flash on the Spectrix S40G RGB, the flash chips are made by Micron. Please note that this SSD is sold in multiple variants with different NAND flash or controller, which could affect performance, the "Notes" section at the end of this page has more info. To improve write speeds, a pseudo-SLC cache is used, so bursts of incoming writes are absorbed more quickly. The cache is sized at 80 GB. The Spectrix S40G RGB is rated for sequential read speeds of up to 3,500 MB/s and 2,400 MB/s write; random IO reaches 300K IOPS for read and 240K for writes.
At its launch, the SSD was priced at 80 USD. The warranty length is set to five years, which is an excellent warranty period. XPG guarantees an endurance rating of 320 TBW, a typical value for consumer SSDs.

Notes

Drive:

1st Revision comes with Micron's FortisFlash 64-Layers B16A (256Gb) and B17A (512Gb)
PS: NAND Bus speed might be between: 533 MT/s ~ 667 MT/s
2nd Revision comes with Micron's FortisFlash 96-Layers B27A (512Gb) and B27B (512Gb)
Suffers from Thermal Throtling under heavy load because of the RGB lighting.

Controller:

This Realtek controller is a Hybrid controller, it supports DRAM Cache for storing Meta-Data, but also supports H.M.B. (Host Memory Buffer)
