My local microcenter has an open box MSI B650 Carbon (16 phase, regular $329) for only $160 - and I could sell my current Mobo I just got; here on TPU for hopefully around 85 (I paid 95 just two days ago and it works perfect)...

worth the upgrade or no? a $330 Mobo would be pretty epic for that price....not sure it's worth the hassle though cause the current setup is working fine.

Whoa...no way you getting rid of that HDV. You own that . You own that and give us feedback for the next year how great that deal that was.

I mean it does work fine, so yeah I guess I won't upgrade it. It was just tempting. Damn microcenter, stop doing this to me!

After selling your current, it will come out to be the same as buying new. Just stick to what you have.

Yeah I agree, plus I would have to deal with slower boot times on the Carbon. the boot times on this Mobo from what I understand are the fastest of any AM5 board.

thanks for talking me down everyone LMAO :peace: :toast:

Umm interesting. Probably just a newer BIOS i'd imagine.

old review: but this is what I was talking about, BIOS updates have narrowed the gap though, for some reason power limit removed even gained 3 seconds on this board in boot time. wild. Steve seems to think its dual slot memory design instead of quad that gives it the extra boot time speed.

That would pretty much be a downgrade, considering pretty much all of MSI's B650 fare is bargain basement 6-layer + 2DIMM to 4DIMM is a straight downgrade + HDV VRM is enough to handle anything. You are paying more for the sake of paying more.

2DIMM is in a perfect position right now. You get its advantages, but you also get access to 64GB and 96GB Hynix kits for basically no compromise.

I actually thought HDV was 4DIMM. The fact that it isn't, basically cements it's position as budget king, no ifs ands or buts.

Get x670 for 40$ more and get more pcie lanes and better hardware overall? I don't like being cheap with the foundation of my house. But I understand money matters.

yeah, I already decided to keep the HDV. I would have bought the Steel Legend B650 non-e, if they had it at MSRP for 179, cause I want an optical port and I really really love steel legend design and features like the 20k caps, that board will last 4x as long as other boards that use 5k caps. that's only think I really regret, the b650 carbon was just temptation cause $330 board half price, but yeah its not that good of a board, doesn't even have a pci 5.0 slot and for that money that is a joke.

microcenter has a pretty lackluster selection of boards to be honest. I would have went with the ASRock b650 livemixer, ASRock b650 steel legend for around $150-180 range MSRP, full price, but they simply don't even carry it. but oh well it is what it is, I made some good deals
