    Core counting

Take the Cell used in the PS3, would you say it's cores are CPUs and if they are how many does it have ?

I know it's not a conventional memory controller but the point is it had the ability to control it's I/O. If you go all the way back to the first computers no one was really using the term "CPU" but even if they did, would you say the CPU(core) was composed of every discrete component expect the...

    Core counting

Except what's thought of as a core is not a equivalent to the physical chip and more often than not it also cannot function as a standalone CPU. The most recent and widely known example is AMD's CPUs, a chiplet doesn't even have a memory controller, it cannot take instructions and output the...

A CPU can have multiple cores, do you not see the problem with saying that a core is a CPU ? It's a circular definition.

The thing is "core" never meant anything in particular to begin with, what's hilarious is that every time you see this term used it's in the context of "multi-core" and almost never by it self because no one has a concise definition of what that is. It's a term that describes something which...

In my opinion the proper concept of a "core" was gone from the moment CPUs started executing multiple instructions concurrently using separate ALUs, from that point on it is kind of a waste of time to think of them as "singular cores" because even if they're processing 1 stream of instructions...

It's strange seeing some of these companies talk about the benefits of open standards while utterly entrenched in Nvidia's ecosystem.

    random shut down-PSU issue?

It's weird because you're asking us if it can damage your PSU and then you're like "nah, this is false". OK lol, why even post this ?

    random shut down-PSU issue?

Regular outages are unlikely to cause any damage, even if they're frequent.

BTW, AMD's lawsuit arguments were mostly centered around performance expectations, not that the CPU didn't have "real cores". It's obvious no one would have cared how many cores it had if the thing was 10X faster, the argument basically was "consumers expected more performance out of 8 cores...

Neither did AMD, it's not like they hid any information about their architecture from people. If you think AMD's marketing was misleading then so is Intel's, their CPUs are always advertised as having "X" amount of cores, except those cores are not all the same. You can look into what an E core...

Bright flashing lights in 3Dmark Port Royal (7900XT)

It kind of looks like when there is a bug with the z buffer and something gets rendered in an incorrect order. It's strange that you say it doesn't always happen.

Bright flashing lights in 3Dmark Port Royal (7900XT)

Pretty strange, they don't look like typical artifacts, I don't have Port Royal so I can test this
